The ability to use a computer is becoming a necessary requirement for everyone whether in education, work or for their own personal use. For anyone with a disability or who has a condition that makes using a computer difficult Abilitywise has a range of services available.

Equipment

Deciding on the most appropriate piece of computer software or hardware for someone with a disability or problem that limits them when using a computer can be confusing. The most expensive piece of equipment is not necessarily the most suitable. It is often the case that hardware and software do not ‘talk’ to each other very well and often money can be wasted from not seeking professional advice.

We supply general equipment such as personal computers on an individual basis that will work with the specialist hardware and software. We also supply specific specialist equipment such as closed circuit televisions for visually impaired clients as well as speech input/output software. The range or equipment we can supply is constantly under review. By supplying the whole package we are able to ensure that all the software and hardware works together. We install and set up all equipment supplied. Initial training supplied as standard. Further training is available on application.

Demonstration of the technology is available and in many cases can be free of charge – contact us to see if this is possible.

Training

We are able to offer both individual and small group training on a range of assistive and adaptive technology and their use with standard computer software such as Microsoft office including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. In particular we are able to provide training on accessing the Internet and e-mail with the use of specialist software such as speech output and voice recognition.

We can provide assistance with the installation and setting up of specialist software used by those with visual impairment and dyslexia .

Installation and training on Scanning software and Closed Circuit Televisions.

Disability awareness training is available to any size group - please contact julian@abilitywise.co.uk or telephone 01626 833107 for further information.

Assessment

Deciding on the most appropriate piece of computer software or hardware for someone with a disability or problem that limits them when using a computer can be confusing. The most expensive piece of equipment is not necessarily the most suitable. Abilitywise can undertake an in-depth assessment and provide the opportunity to tryout a variety of specialist equipment. The assessment can result in a report providing options for using a computer and information regarding suppliers.

Consultancy

Abilitywise can provide a consultancy service to give advice to business, education and other organisations requiring help with disability issues and in particular DDA and SENDA compliance.
